The Kettering East branch was a Little Chef restaurant located on the eastbound side of the A14 near Kettering, Northamptonshire.
Opened in 1998, Kettering East was a landmark Little Chef site. It was the first of a new generation of restaurants developed by Granada in a new look building. The building itself was manufactured off site and then transported and assembled onsite. This not only allowed for consistency of design but led to much quicker construction times, allowing, in theory, Granada to open more Little Chefs more quickly. The buildings themselves were brick finished with pitched roof, wood trimmed gable to front and slate coloured tiled roof.
Before Kettering East was built, the Kettering West Little Chef (located just opposite on the westbound side) was already operating in full swing. Kettering West opened a little earlier than Kettering East in 1996/97. With the opening of Kettering East in 1998, this gave Kettering Services a dual sided Little Chef site.
In terms of facilities, Kettering East was built alongside a filling station which always helped attract extra custom to the Little Chef. In terms of accommodation, Kettering East didn't recieve a lodge, however its westbound partner did.
In 2009, Kettering West recieved the Heston Blumental refurbishment. Kettering East on the other hand kept its original format, giving the two sites a variation of interior designs. There are also plans for the westbound Little Chef to receive a second refurbishment with the joining of a Burger King in the process but there are currently no news for Kettering East though.
In 2017, the Little Chef at Kettering East closed as part of the Euro Garages takeover of the chain. However, Kettering West still soldiers on although it is said that it will also close by July 2017.
