The Bainshole branch was a former Little Chef located on the A96 between Inverurie and Huntly just at the entrance to the Glens of Foudland.
Some Little Chefs remain a bit of a mystery and Bainshole is certainly one of them. Evidence suggests the site was very short lived - it only appears on an undated 1970s map, is gone by 1975 and hasn't been built by 1972. This was the era in which Forte offered Little Chef as a franchise so maybe this was a franchised site where things just didn't work out.
Trying to find the site is also quite difficult. However, the most likely candidate lies to the north of the A96/ A920 junction and now trades as Morgan mcVeigh's cafe and gift shop. Like the Killiecrankie Little Chef of the same era, the building and car park sit above road level, while the building looks very much like a rebuild as if a former Little Chef may have been demolished.
It's the best guess we have.
Little Chef's second site on the A96 after Inverness (with Forres later opening to become a third) the road is now a Little Chef-free zone. Surprising considering how much long distance traffic it takes and how many bypasses have now been built. Definitely potential for more too!
