|Year Opened||Pre 1968|
The Bagshot branch was a former Little Chef restaurant located on the A30 in Bagshot, Surrey.
Opening between 1958 and 1968, the Little Chef at Bagshot was one of the first branches to open in the UK along with other branches such as Reading, Camberley, Alwalton and Mirfield. The Little Chef was located on the A30 in the centre of Bagshot and was positioned between a filling station and a cafe known as Bert's. The Little Chef was housed in a small, basic, prefabricated cabin (a typical Little Chef house design of the era). Little Chefs in this era were also very short staffed.
Bagshot had something of a celebrity in terms of the Little Chef as it claimed to be the smallest ever Little Chef restaurant in the UK with only room of up to 10 customers (1 customer short of the Reading branch). Even though it was the smallest Little Chef In the UK, It still managed to do a successful trade for about 20 years. In the mid 1980s, there were some sad news for the Bagshot Little Chef.
In 1984/5, the Little Chef at Bagshot sadly ceased trading and was demolished soon after. If you want to find the old Little Chef site today, it is positioned between the Bagshot BP filling station and the Jack's Fish and Chips restaurant - notice the logo on the totem sign outside looks much more like the Little Chef one from the 1990s/2000s, but with a 'king' fish instead of Fat Charlie, and reads 'Fish & Chips' instead of 'Little Chef', shown in the same style font.
A real miss for the smallest Little Chef!
